Bug Eye add-on telephoto, macro, and wide lenses

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I notice that Bugeye (www.bugeyedigital.com)markets attachment lenses for digital cameras in tele, wide, and macro (close up) designs for various popular digital cameras, even the hard-to-fit ones, like the Fuji MX700. They even make the brackets to fit lenses onto cameras without a lens thread!

It would make sense to do some sample optical reviews of these on the comparometer, at least the resolution test, using a top digicam, just to get an idea of whether an add-on lens would be good or not.

I've considered waiting for a digicam with a fixed lens, and getting the tele, for example, so I could pocket the camera to take everywhere, but when on an outing, I'd toss the add-on lens into another pocket. Otherwise I'd need a larger camera with zoom. I'm sure a lot of people have had this idea, but probably are wondering about what you really get with such add-on lenses. Naturally the makers aren't really testing and showing you their tests, probably figuring if they are good nobody would believe the salesman!

Thanks, Dave for the answers to my previous questions, and for using my suggestion about including diopter correction in viewfinder reviews. Bob

Bob- Another great suggestion, now if we can only find time to do it! I never fully got caught up after PMA, now am just getting over being sick with the flu for a week, and have a vacation scheduled week after next! I'll see if we can't fit something like this in though, as it would indeed be a service to many owners and prospective owners. The trick is that there are so many different cameras, and the lenses may very well work differently with each of them. Still, I'll contact Ricky at BugEyeDigital, and see what suggestions he might have. We're expecting to get a Fuji MX-2700 soon for review, maybe his MX-700 lenses would fit that model, and we could use it to test some of the adapters with...

Thanks again!
