capturing images from digital video

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I work for an international charity and want to build a digital photo library on the web for our global partners to access. I shoot video on Panasonic DV100 digital camcorder. What software should I use for capturing images on computer? (they must be high res) What printer would be best for printing images? What software do I need to build a library on the web? Please Email me. Thanks Dave

Yow! This gets outside my area of expertise, maybe some other readers can respond. - By "digital video", I assume you mean a camcorder with a direct digital output. If it's "Firewire", several computers are now coming out with Firewire ports on them. Easier might be to just get a ZipShot device from Arcsoft (www.arcsoft.com), which plugs into the parallel port, and grabs frames from a standard old analog video signal. Printer - if already in the computer, most any good-quality inkjet printer shoud work fine. If working directly from Video, Olympus' new little P330 printer can grab and print video frames direclty to small, snapshot-sized sheets. For web album software (on the PC platform), you might check out "Living Album" from Club Photo - the software is free, and you can also get free web space to display your albums. Go to www.clubphoto.com. Hope this helps!
