Pshannon did a quick synopsis. It's at:

Remember, the subject matter was only discussed for 15 minutes. The show's only a half hour and they also had to cover a segment on hate crimes. Maybe someone will post a transcript. I missed it, as well

Commercials. What were the commercials?

I saw it...not much meat. But at least it did sorta advertise the offical senate report, which was said to be released this week. I'm supposing that is what we've already read on the web. I note one of the senators did say that people should NOT buy generators. They did mention health care industry, nukes, and a little on the elec grid. One senator did admit that he expected brown-outs. This is all going "drip - drip - drip" in a clear effort to prevent bank runs. Is it really true that for every $100.00 on deposit, there is only $1.17 in real currency???? In my business, I take in cash as well as checks - in the last couple of months, I have noticed really ratty bills; all taped together, torn, etc. In the past the bank cashiers would have sent those in for burning; I think they are not burning ANYTHING now.

Yeah, we shouldn't buy generators because there is going to be serious gas rationing. (Which in a way I can understand, they need it to power the vechicles that will bring parts to electric co's., and medicine to hospitals and food to the stores, etc.)

Yes, I think that statement about money is correct. Gary North's site has the complete info--don't know exactly where, but under the catagory "Banking," I'm sure...

Got Kerosene...?

It's interesting to me how two senators who write reports of "strong caution" can come on national media and so water down their responses they effectively trivialize the subject. But, perhaps that was their intent - the same old saw, avoid panic. Yardeni seemed to have caught the two at it when he somewhat interrupted by mentioning the full report will come out Monday.

Keep the faith!

I thought it was pretty interesting That Bennett said something about being concerned about just in time inventory control (with no explanation as to what THAT is), they cut to a commercial, & when they came back, the moderator said they had previously been discussing the food supply. Maybe I zoned out & missed part of the show? Or maybe they were discussing the food supply & JIT inventory privately amongst themselves during the ad. At any rate, by not defining what just in time inventory control IS, most people won't comprehend the problem. Y2k problems don't seem to tranlate well when presented in 20 second sound bites.

Mostly - you're exactly right - and it fares worse when they don't WANT it to be presented clearly and concisely. The news media (TV especitally) thrives on visual impacts to a comotose viewer.

There is little "good graphics" involved in predicting things - and if you are assaulting the society the newscaster thrive in, you will (as shown by the idiot laughing) only get rejection. These guys don't want the truth exposed in this matter becasue it doens' tfit their agenda - speaking as one who has briefed the media, and been on TV. I've seen what is covered, and what is ignored, and what is summarized, and what is asked about.

If it doesn't fit their "editorial style" and the "assignment" they were told to get, it won't be shown.

To me the most interesting part of the show was Bennett saying "don't panic, bump in the road, yadda yadda" and then saying how that most collected information was "self reported" and the was the wild card. Maybe I misunderstood...............

We have another thread a few items down about this. <:)=

well, on the upside - at least we don't have to worry about too many pseudoliberal (note how I phrased that Gilda?) reporters surviving anything much heavier than a '4'. It's just too bad that they're going to be responsible for taking so many others down with them when they go.

Hi lyn,

I saw face the nation. Yardeni, Chris Dodd, and Bennett were all on. Dodd did the "prepare for a winter storm" speech. Then, the brilliant commentator suggested to Dodd that he might panic the public by suggesting ANY prep at all, even for 3 days.

Yardeni suggested that we might have a y2k induced recession and stock market correction. He also commented that he thought the stock market was high due to the perception of "good times rolling" indefinately. Further, he admitted that his predictions were the minority opinion amoung economists. And-- his comments were very balanced and conservative. Using words like, may and could, etc. And-- the brilliant commentator suggested to Mr Yardeni that his preditions might become a self-fulfilling prophecy. IE if economists (even one?) predict a market correction./recession that it may occur soley from the prediction. Yardeni replied that he was not that influential.

Senator Bennett was confusing. He seemed to be talking out of both sides of his mouth. On the one hand, he repeated more than once that no one can know what will actually happen on 01-01-2000 until that day comes. He ALSO predicted that electricity would function with few exception. He suggested that there was no need to buy a generator. He expressed concerns for "other countries" much more than for here. I was confused. Maybe he is too?
