EXPLOSIONS!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

Rick Cowles, I notice that you had posted on another forum about two explosions that you had heard of. I created a thread 'EXPLOSIONS' with the thought in mind that perhaps any explosions that occur could be posted on one thread. I found the following: "Gas pipeline explodes near Portland, Oregon February 27, 1999 Web posted at: 4:40 AM EST (0940 GMT) PORTLAND, Oregon (Reuters) -- An explosion in a natural gas pipeline sent a spectacular fireball into the sky late Friday but caused little damage on the ground, officials said..." I posted nothing of the sort - in csy2k, a regular posted something about two explosions in recent days. My response was that these things can be attributed to just about anything but Y2k - from poor management oversight to la Nina.

Someone previously called it the "red truck syndrome" - and I can relate. Until I bought my red Dodge Ram 50 truck, I never noticed any others on the road. After I bought my truck, I noticed almost every one that I passed (or that passed me) simply because I was more 'sensitized' to the existence of red Dodge Ram 50's.

Again, as I said in another thread, industrial accidents happen all the time. You just weren't noticing them before, but now (for whatever reason) you're aware of them.

Note that this discussion is way off topic, and I'll be deleting the thread later today.
