Resolution of Sample Images

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Your brilliant review of the Canon Powershot Pro 70 convinced me to rush out and buy one. Still practicing with it.

My question is: When viewing your sample images in Photoshop 5, the image resolution is shown as 180 pixels/inch. However, as far as I know, the pictures downloaded from the camera, in any form including RAW, are shown as 90 pixels/inch. Why the difference ?

Will upload my views on the camera when I have more experience of it.

From what I understand, all cameras have a set download resolution.. I had the same problem.. After you aquire a photo into photo shop, Go to image--image size click. Notice res.is 90. picture size is somewhere around 17.? inches x 13.? inches...Turn off resample box then resize your picture..(8x10--5x7) whatever..click ok.. Bring image size back up, Turn your resample on(check box) Note that your res is up to about 140 With no loss of pixels..Increase res by interpolation to 210 ...this should print a good picture..Hope this helped. Sure helped me when I found the info.. Good luck Lloyd

David- Sorry for the slow response - The sample images we post are all taken directly from the camera's storage media, whether CF or SmartMedia. The only thing I can think of to explain the difference in dpi recorded in the file is that we tested the Pro70 quite a while back, well before they were released in final form. It's entirely possible that they've changed the default dpi recorded in the JPEG in the production models...
