Can you say Joseph McCarthy? NCR wants YOUR opinion!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The Nuclear Regulatory Committee wants YOUR opinion on: Y2K and shut-down of nuclear facilities; Y2K and emergency planning; Y2K and availability of back-up power. You can correspond to them (should you wish to do so!) at www.nrc.gov/NRC/NEWS/year2000.html Sorry, I'm hot-link challenged. Now really, do you want your name on a list? Okay, they probably already have it!! Can you say Joseph McCarthy?!!!

Thanks to all who post here and maintain a 1999 schizophrenic life! Off to buy more beans at Dan's....Victoria

Reminds me of a quote from either Jerry Rubin or Abbie Hoffman,..I think it was Hoffman. Something like:

"Anyone who doesn't have their name on a list somewhere ought to be ashamed of themselves."

Donna, you're right, I loved that quote. Tangential, but my own favorite is Groucho Marx's remark about not wanting to belong to any club that would have him as a membmer.

What does Joe McCarthy have to do with this? Please explain.

-- Curiousity Cat (inthehat@your.house), February 26, 1999.

I think the reference was fear of getting your name on a list by responding to govt. agency survey - Joseph McCarthy - Red Scare - House Unamerican Activities Committee - Blacklisting. You know...the same old governmental nonsense. :)

Joe Mac was right! Commies said so. But...

We win!

Been writing gob'ment for years and I think some of them enjoy the "rantings of a (.......), thought you had me!

-- Mark Hillyard (foster@inreach.com), February 26, 1999.

Mark, take a long hard look around and then tell me again that we won. The "commies' didn't give up. They are still here. This Urban Warrior shit is about gun confiscation.Of course their not gonna call it communism (duh).

-- Curiosty Cat (inthehat@is.back), February 26, 1999.

Joeseph McCarthy was absolutely correct... and as Cat said, we're now beginning to see the fruits of it. Here's a fun project: go look up "Communist Manifesto" on the net, look at its ten planks, and compare them to life in modern America. EVERY SINGLE PLANK is in place in this country, right now. Remember 1964, and Kruschev saying "We will bury you."? He also said "America will have communism, but we will call it socialism." Look around, folks...

Communism is an economic system, just like capitalism, gang. The fact that the capitalistic world made communist states into Evil Empires and worthy foes for whipping up ardor for war has nothing to do with the basic ideologies; all of them hopelessly flawed,...

my two worthless cents....

Got Greenspan???

-- Donna Barthuley (moment@pacbell.net), February 26, 1999.

Get a grip, Donna. Communism, like capitalism, is an ideological system just as much as it's an economic system. The big difference is that, while capitalism doesn't exactly encourage personal freedom by Everyman, communism actively discourages it. Just what do you think the hammer in the hammer & sickle is for??

-- american (commies@still.around), February 27, 1999.

Thanks, Scooter. I did look it up. I'm planning to make some copies and pass them out while we still can. BTW, this group is celebrating 150 yrs. of this nonsense, and getting bolder. They actually state their violent overthrow of ALL other systems. If we don't get active with our own agenda, we're gonna be in trouble.
