I will be attending this year's Embedded Systems Conference in Chicago. There is a presentation on Y2K and embedded systems on Tuesday. I'll report back here on what is said. Anybody else going to be there?

The Year 2000 Problem in Embedded Systems: Fact or Fiction?

Arnie Berger

Much has been written in the popular press about the Year 2000 (Y2K) problem with respect to MIS and financial computer systems. However, the issues surrounding Y2K in embedded systems are less clear. Many writers suggest the problem doesn't exist and is a fabrication of over-zealous consultants, while many others, including respected academic societies, believe the problems are very real. This class is an analysis of the Y2K problem in the embedded systems that have been proven to be sensitive. It shows the way that the problem manifests itself and what methods, from brute force replacement to specially designed tools, are being used to locate potential problem areas. There will also be some discussion of the legal issues surrounding Y2K.

Sounds like fun. I wonder how the message content will change between what the presenters say and what us grunts in the cubicles and on the lab floor hear from our attending horn haired representatives.
