Any problems getting to Norths site?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Does anyone know if theres a problem with getting logged on to Gary Norths site? (2/26/99) Haven't been able to all morning - since 4: am CT.

I know its probably nothing and I'm paranoid, but it doesn't seem to be on my end and was wondering.

I experienced problems at different times all week. I expect it's a problem of server saturation.

I just tried from here at work, and our proxy server gave me this message:

The requested item could not be loaded by the proxy.

A network error occurred: unable to connect to server (TCP Error: Broken pipe) The server may be down or unreachable. Try connecting again later.

Have been having the same problem too.

Just tried again at approx. 8:40 AM and received following window:

Internet Explorer canot open the Internet site http://www.garynorth.com/y2k/latest_.cfm

A connection with the server could not be established.

Something is up, or should I say down. Can't get in no way no how. Tried the direct url, the hotlink on the CBN site, the mirror site, and even the old mirror server since I never removed the bookmark. Nobody Home. I don't think this can be saturation, not with the mirrors which are separate servers also not serving content. Very strange. Stay tuned.

This mirror http://y2k-links.com/ garynorth/latest.htm is still working.

Everything looks like it is up now regardless of how you go in. Maybe they were doing Y2K maintenance :)

Thanks, everyone.

Even though its back up, remember: Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean everyone isn't watching you.

Perfect paranoia is perfect awareness...

I have noticed North's site is usually down when he is posting something. Never fails. If I can't get o his site, there will usually be new postings by him when I get connected. Just an observation.

I'm convinced that GN doesn't want to improve his Server capacity and reliability..........it's just more 'proof' he can give that technology is useless and is going down. How many times in the past has he whined about things not working....This rumbling about perhaps there's something conspiracy-like happening to shut him down stuff that some of you post, is exactly what Gary North wants!

IF YOU WANT TO MAKE FUN OF gARY nORTH ,PLEASE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

GN has said on several occasions that his site is saturated on weekdays from about 8 am to about 11 am, and sometimes even Gary cannot get on.

For this reason he has encouraged several mirror sites.

Hey, yourdon.com was completely unavailable to me this AM, apparently due to that latest update (including Ms. Jennifer's rebuttal of the ZDY2K piece) was being processed. Just another example of the importance of capacity planning...
