Does anyone know what body the new nikon digital camera will be based on. A promo looks like an F5 but it wasnt't very clear.

We wrote up some of what we found at PMA on this camera in our "PMA special report", which can be found at http://www.imaging-resource.com/EVENTS/PMAS99/PMAS99A.HTM.

The new SLR has a strong family resemblance to the F5 and new F100, but isn't directly "based" on them: It's an entirely new body design, but will use much of the technology incorporated in the F5 and F100. Nikon was deliberately very vague on details, but it appears that 3D matrix metering, etc will be included.
