Best sub $900 currently on the market?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I would like to buy a digital camera within the next month and am having a terrible time deciding. I am a novice in photography in general so large portions of the reviews are over my head. I would like a 'traditional' feel camera that takes the best pictures and is currently on the market.

The Oly C-2000z seems to be the rage but I can't wait until May. I'm currently looking at the following models: Fuji MX-600, Minolta EX1500, Nikon CP700 and Oly D400z.

Are there any others that I should consider? What are your opinions on these? One more request: a decent refresh rate for the LCD -- a friend has a Kodak DC260 and I couldn't stand its LCD.

I have a Kodak DC 260 and I use it daily- pictures are great. I use for insurance work. LCD isn't the best, other cameras have similar problems with LCD. You might want to consider the new Nikon 950.

The minolta has an LCD as bad as the kodak, but it would be my personal pick from the list you gave anyway. Minolta will be coming out with 2 and 3 megapix CCD add-ons for it, and even without that the camera rules. It won top honors at the recent PMA show in two categories, one being image quality I believe. A big reason I like this cam is image quality comparisons.

If you don't need huge compact flash storage, oly 400 might be a good second choice, i imagine the fuji 600 (isn't that the new one with USB and zoom?) might be as good.
