Please read both of my posts

here

This is not a life or death issue. This is not a tech. issue, it is a cultural one.

This hunch I have will not leave me alone.

There are so many people here, in so many different places interested in y2k. Be my eyes & ears?

The next few months should be interesting. THANK YOU!

Y2K seems to a very PERSONAL issue. One shouldn't be waiting until ebveryone else starts stocking up to start themselves. By then it's too late. If you feel that rationing is likely, then be prepared for it. There are those in power who will swear 'til the last minute that everything is Okay while the city falls apart around them. It is time to use your instincts. That is why we have them...I personally have ALREADY stocked up, converted my investments to cash, and I am gettng my bank used to me cashing out my paychecks directly instead of just depositing them...If everything goes to "heckin a handbasket" in the cities, I have already established my escape route and destinaions... But Y2K is still very personal. Others may think I'm a lunatic, but then because they are doing nothing, I think THEY are nuts. So either way it doesn't matter what one does. Others will think they are crazy.

So, to sum it all up. Be prepared to ration. If it has been mentioned by one person, it's a sure bet others have thought about it too and think it's a VERY good idea..kind of like martial law...

Deborah,

Now you have to help us. I just posted a response about rationing in your other thread. But I am puzzled about what is the topic of this thread?

Deborah: I expect that we will have rationing. Several reasons. First, it tends to stop the panic. Second, right now we're in a situation where almost everyone who has a computer and is on the internet can stockpile if they really want to do so. Some can write out a check for two years of food for 10 people, others go to SAMs and Costco a little at a time, but most put a little aside.

Our liberal 'fairness' will dictate that when people start moving to buy food then that food must be made available to all. Since some can't buy extra, then "it won't be fair for anyone to buy, so, no one will be able to buy." [Except that the people in government will have made certain that they have theirs before rationing is put in place.]

BTW, if you have rationing, then we can't have food shortages, so there' "no reason to panic."

The banks will do the same thing........they just call it a limit on withdrawals of your money.

Rationing is sort of a "middle-of-the-road" Y2K scenario.

On the low end, nothing much happens, and a lot of us get REALLY TIRED of beans & rice.

On the high-end, riots, martial-law, war & famine.

Thank every one for responding, I would not at all be suprised by rationing. I was suprised to see the word in Feb. (although not in a strong context, which I would consider food, or fuel.)

I suppose the purpose of the thread Jerry, was just if you see the 'r' word, I think it is significant enough to post. There is much speculation here about when the 'herd' will start to respond. Well, I think if they start hearing the 'r' word enough, it just might do it. I suppose I am fascinated by the many different ways this is playing out in our society.

I'm sorry if I am not articulating this well, I have had a rather bad flu since Sun. My brain feels like cotton balls. :-)
