Pocket size camera

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am looking for a pocket size digital camera and would like to know should I get the Canon A5 Zoom or the Fuji Mx 2700?

The question is which camera would take a better picture with subject of the same size at equal distance using a 2.5 optical zoom with a resolution of 1 mega pixel image (Canon A5 Zoom) or a image at 2.3 mega pixel using digital zoom?

Thank

It is easy to see that Fuji Mx 2700 will have better picture due to its higher resolution.

Actually, I'd come down on the other side of the equation than the previous poster: I think the optical zoom would win hands-down. Consider: You'd be getting a full 1024x768 image, whereas the 1600x1200 resolution of the 2700 gets chopped down by a factor of 2.5 to 640x480 when the digital zoom is engaged. Of course, for *non-zoom* pictures, it's an equal no-brainer: 1600x1200 will beat 1024x768 all the time...

It's really depressing that the fuji 2700 doesn't have optical zoom. That high resolution goes down the tubes when you use digital zoom. The A5 zoom has limited resolution, but it does have a real optical zoom, and damn it sure it tiny!!! If I could live with resolution I'd get it for sure. $400 seems like a steal.
