Titanic's whistles to be sounded

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TitanicShack (tm) Alert System : One Thread

The 750-pound set of bronze whistles that was retrieved during a 1993 expedition to the deep underwater site of the wreck will be blown at approximately 4:04 EST (3:04 p.m. central time; 21.04 GMT) on Saturday, February 20, 1999.

Plans are for the whistles to sound at 4:04 PM Eastern time (21.04 UT/GMT), which I believe is a reference to the shipyard build number for Titanic: No.404.

According to a spokesperson, the only scheduled public re-sounding of the whistle will be recorded and preserved as part of the exhibition currently in St.Paul, which has already visited Memphis and Boston.
