Was Cal trying to bed Rose?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TitanicShack : One Thread

In Titanic.....when Cal is sat with Rose at breakfast(before he goes bursurk)....he says to her,"I hope you would have come to me tonight"

I know in those days....sex before marrage was considered a dreadful sin but I just can't see what else Cal means.I've also seen a picture from a scene that was never used were Cal has his hands on Roses' shoulder and it looks as if hes' saying something of that matter because her face is a mixture of shock and anger.He is saying it very close to her ear to.

Does anyone know if he was trying to get into Roses' draws?? {added paragraph breaks}

Jo, I would sugguest finding an original script on the web somewhere and reading the scenes where they first board Titanic. to me it certainly implied that Cal was definately after getting Rose in bed during the Titanic voyage. Anyway, I'll let you decided for yourself:) hope that helps some.

Ya. In the script Trudy Bolt (The maid) makes a remark about "Crawling into the sheets and being the first to sleep in them"...then Cal comments further by saying "And when I crawl into the sheets I'll STILL be the first...forever and always" and he looks right at Rose. Then Trudy gets embarassed and leaves. So, yes....:I'd hope you would come to me last night" was suggesting that Rose would go yo bed with Cal.

I absoulutly love the movie... and everything else about it. I probably know way more than most people... after all I have met James Cameron, have actual pictures taken from an extra on the movie... up close pictures of Kate and Leo... I also have the original screen play and the revised edition... not to be modest or anything, it's just that when you love something so much, you can't help but learn all about it. So anyways, on with the answer... I don't believe Cal is that much of a pig, he wanted Rose with him because deep down he knows that he loves her, but jelousy got in the way and made it harder for him to see thought it, right to the heart of Rose. 'member when he says "there's nothing I wouldn't give to you, there's nothing I wouldn't deny of you, if you would not deny me; oh open your heart to me Rose..." Right then and there, you see the love that Cal is trying to express. In conclusion... no Cal wasn't trying to get her in the saddle! thanks for reading... luv the one and only titanic freak... Cal WAS definitely trying to bed Rose, and yes, he did love her "in his own way" (in a possessive way).
