"talking"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread

We just got a 4 month old Maine Coon female. I noticed that she " talks " alot. Especially when we make eye contact and she gives me this squeaky little mew. When it's very quiet in the house she'll walk all around me giving soft little mews. Do these cats just like to talk....what is my Molly trying to say?

Almost all of my MCs "talk" to me, each a bit differently. The little mew when you make eye contact may just be "hello", or she may be saying she loves you, if followed by a slow blink. My guys and gals all will say something when I address him/her by name. One of my neutered males is the most talkative, and will scold me if dinner is even a little bit late! You'll figure out what she's trying to say after a while. The more you answer her, the more she will say.

Brutus, my MCC male, squeaks all the time. Oddly, I have never heard him hiss or yowl. He is just too good natured. My handsome boy is my pride and joy, and I wouldn't be without him.

We have an 8mo male kitten who will talk for his food and let us know in a New York minute if a door that is normally open is closed by first meowing softly and then getting progressively louder if we don't open it, including the bathroom door while one of us is inside! If you ask me, they love to talk. Enjoy your precious bundle.

My MC type, Grendel makes all kinds of vocal racket. Whenever he jumps up on something or down to the floor he makes this trilling little mew. He does it all the time when I talk to him too. All the other cats I've had in my life rarely "talked" but Grendel squeaks, mews, yowls and trills non-stop.

Bear - (7 month old silver mac male)is constantly letting me know if he is in disagreement with something. He will start softly, but then gradually gets louder. When we have guests, our lil boy invites them in and give them a tour of his "home". We can usually understand what it is he is trying to communicate with us by his actions that follow or the surroundings.

My MC talks constantly! Infact he is rarely quiet. He has something to say about everything and everyone. I get a scolding when I get home late and yes my MC swears! He follows me around every morning crying about this and that and answers perfectly when you talk to him. But he has such a quiet voice and is so cute about it that it rarely gets annoying, unless he wants outside than he gets rather loud and demanding!
