Des Moines Register Poll - 42% of Iowans will be praying about Y2k

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Unfortunately, the Des Moines Register didn't put this on their web page. In yesterday's paper there was an article about a poll the DM register took of Iowan's familiar with Y2k and what they would do. Hopefully this will come out in readable form.

done plan to do might prob not not sure stockpile food 4 % 10% 16% 69% 1% buy generator 8% 5% 11% 75% 1% Withdraw cash 12% 17% 70% 1% upgrade computer/ home appliances 13% 18% 19% 48% 2% Plan to stay at home or somewhere safe on 12/31/99 3% 29% 13% 51% 4% Pray that there is no Y2k disaster 12% 30% 19% 37% 2%

They quoted one lady that has no plans to store food or prepare in any way, but said if the electricity goes out she can go to her neighbors and stay, but she is praying for no disaster.

I wonder how long the neighbor will put her up??? How many others have this same thought and aren't preparing because good ol' Joe down the street will take me in???

Folks,

If you know of any Christians who are doing the 'pray but don't prepare' routine, PLEASE give them a copy of Shanti Feldhaun's book THE MILLENIUM BUG : A Balanced Christian Perspective. It will address the issues in a way which generally works well to motivate such folks to prepare.

I have no connection with the author or the publisher - have simply found the book to be an effective tool, even though I personally think she underestimates the worst case possibilities.

Faith does not rule out common sense

In facing life each day,

But takes it by the hand and says,

"We'll trust, we'll plan, we'll pray!" DJD
