Is it possible to save scanned photos in a format that will allow them to be displayed on a TV using a device such as a Kodak Photo CD player?

PhotoCD service bureaus can actually take digital images and write them to PhotoCD discs (provided they have the right equipment/ software). I think most any common format (TIFF or JPEG, for example) works as the source format for this process. Other than that, I seem to recall seeing a prototype of a device that would take images on a floppy and display them, but don't know its current status, or even who came up with it...
