My vote for stupidest y2k statement for February : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

1st statement nominated for "Stupid Y2K Statement in February" (in BOLD):

ABB has had nearly 1,000 people working on this issue for a year, he added. Toshiba Corp President Taizo Nichimuro, who is advising the Tokyo government on Y2K readiness, said Japan was catching up: ''Japan was a little bit late ... but we are coming very close to the level of the United States or Europe.''

He acknowledged Japanese banks have financial problems but said banks had already made preparations to combat the millennium bug when the sector was more profitable.

Jeff Bezos, head of online bookseller Inc said the problems were unlikely to be overwhelming, but the issue was creating some uncertainty.

2nd statement nominated for "Stupid Y2K Statement in February" (in BOLD): ``The problem is that even if companies do a good job of eliminating the Y2K dependencies from their own systems, you do not know if all of your vendors have eliminated the Y2K dependencies from their systems,'' he told Reuters.

``It is impossible for any company to assure that there are no Y2K problems. guess is that because there has been so much hype maybe nothing will happen,'' Bezos said.

If you possibly want to read more of this crazed "report", including the massive "dampening down" statements from master Bill Gates, go to Millennium Bug May Not Have A Nasty Bite

Be patient - It's a little early yet to choose the "stupidist" statement for February.

True....these 2 are just the first 2 nominations for February. I'm sure there are more to come.

Personally I thought Bezo's (oops I meant Bezos')statement about hype to be quite telling - makes me wonder if the big boys realize that they've had their spin machines on high cycle for so long that now NOBODY knows what's going on.

just a thought, Arlin
