I watched Koyanisquaatsi last night. Thanks to all on this forum who recommended it: truly an epiphany. Of all the definitions given at the end of the movie, I liked the one about "life so crazy it calls for a different way of living." Then, to my astonishment, Coppola gave translations of the Hopi prophecies being chanted during the movie. The second was "Before the Day of Purification, cobwebs will be spun back and forth across the sky." I couldn't help but think of all the talk about 'airplane grids.' I still think they're just contrails, but was stunned by the aptness of the metaphor--'cobwebs spun back and forth across the sky.' Are we facing a Day of Purification? (The third Hopi prophecy was straight out of the Book of Revelations, Ch. 8: "Someday ashes may fall to the earth, burning the ground and boiling the oceans." Purification, by fire?)

Doesn't Koyanisquaatsi mean "life out of balance"? Is this a video?

I find much comfort in the ways and the teachings and the prophecies of the American Indian. Their wisdom is very much in need these days. My best friend is deeply involved with the Hopi and the Souix and speaks often of the Purification. It's an amazing time we live in and many changes are coming to pass.

I've been watching the cobwebs in the sky too but I didn't know about that prophecy. That sent shivers up and down my spine.

The Hopi are out now trying to spread the word. Even NASA has contacted the Hopi Elders regarding the earth changes. Something is up.

Koyannisqatsi is pronounced koy-YAN-is-kat-si - at least that's how that say in the movie!

As to "cobwebs spun back and forth in the sky" - in the movie there a few scenes of above ground electrical wires and towers, which could also be what they are talking about - since really, this entire century could be considered "near the day of Purification". However, the contrails does sound more like the intended meaning...

Yes, Koyaanisqatsi is an amazingly powerful movie about the perils of the industrial and material worldview. You can rent it from many video stores - especially the smaller ones who stock the "good stuff". You won't ever forget the images and music. Highly recommonded, and it's especially relevant to Y2K. For all we know, Y2K could be very much a part of the prophecy, even though they don't mention computers as such.

Unfortunately, the movie is no longer available for sale. Maybe it will come back again sometime soon...

Also, there's a "sequel" called Powaqqatsi that looks at the population explosion combined with the spread of industrial civilization, and how it was changed placed like India, Egypt and China. It's ultimately life-affirming and shows, through music and images, the dignity of all people, no matter their circumstances.

The dual answer for the "cobwebs in the sky" as utility lines and contrails is a textbook example of syncronicity.

Lest you forget, after the "purification" a new world arises. With every "ending" there is always a new beginning. (Hint: It's a circle of life, no matter what "webs" we weave).

There are also Hopi prophecies that are not generally known. The kind they've been "holding back" while they look for the correlating signs. One of them relates to when the skies clear up (i.e. polution is "cleansed" from the sky. There is a little "machine," that has already been tested accurate. The Hopi are aware of it. Dru at FOL talks about it).
