The water systems of major cities are in peril of collapsing due to a thunderous amount of simultaneous toilet flushing at halftime. It happened in Salt Lake City.

Well we dodged that bullet. The game was so boring that most people were asleep by halftime!

I recall hearing several years back about a poll conducted by a midwest DPW. Residents of the town were instructed to flush all the toilets in their house at a certain time in support of Candidate A, and an hour later for Candidate B. DPW measured the drop in water pressure. (I believe he got in trouble for creating a fire hazard.)

Last week at a Y2K seminar co-sponsored by EPA, EPA said it expects many industrial plants to shutdown temporarily during the rollover. He said the utilities are concerned about impacts if too many fire up again at the same time. EPA recommended that a company's contingency plan include additional emergency generator fuel (and NOT natural gas!!) since outages may be extended based on problems like this.
