Sure, Clinton's a dictator wanna-be, but you all make a serious mistake, you are thinking too traditionally, when you focus on a given individual , Clinton or anybody else. Talk about a "systemic" problem (to use Gary North's favorite phrase). Our gradual devolution to a police state is propelled, not by one unscrupulous individual (Clinton), in fact it would be almost reassuring if one man could have that kind of effect in TODAY'S world. No, our headlong rush to either the world of 1984 (jackboot model) or Brave New World (soma model) is propelled by the following inexorable pressures:

- increasing population

- increasing technology

- finite natural world

The trend to a police state would continue unabated if Clinton were convicted, removed, and replaced by Dan Quayle or Rush Limbaugh or anybody other individual you all might like, today.

Well obviously Clinton is not alone, I've always maintained that nothing would ever happen to him as long as he had the backing. Ever feel like Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory? I do. OK new scenerio. y2k comes the terrorists hit all those non-compliant systems. We (they) must strike back! It turns out to be Timothy McVey's group, and they are in the hills of Arkansas! Oops. But they were bad too. Oklahoma! Oops, but they were connected! Wyoming-Montana! Big battle we can see it on CNN. See how the Apache helecopters come in at night and tear up the compounds of those radicals! Found another group of militants in Colorado! Under the guise of helpful community minded citizens. The Cassandra Group was finally linked to the ciber-terrorists. Many terrorists have been found individually in the rural areas, they have been arrested and charged with terrorism. The masses go back to sleep. BELIEVE IT!!

IMHO, Republicans have wasted their credibility by attacking Clinton for trivial stuff like sex scandal lying and pumping it up to try to make that appear to be some threat to the nation remediable only by removal of the President. They are fooling very few citizens. By these mean-spirited, clearly politically-motivated attacks, they have now drained themselves of the moral authority that would be better put to use in alerting the public about the issue of presidenial emergency powers.

Furthermore, recent off-the-mark accusations of unconstitutionality of some EOs (notably, EO 13083 and EO 13117) also divert credibility from those attacking those EOs to those who point out that accusations of, for example, EO 13083's repealing the Tenth Amendment arise from either ignorance or willful deceit of the attackers.

Of course, if current Congressional Republicans did succeed in curbing those emergency powers, then future Republican presidents would not have access to them. That might be a strong disincentive for Republicans to attack the emergency powers, mightn't it, hmmmm ... ?

Tried to email you, something went wrong. I was in the service during vietnam, volunteered for it. didn't go Tell your son from me to him. If he enlisted with the idea of preserving freedom, Now is a real good time to reconfirm what side he is on. The enemy has creeped in and the blood will be on OUR soil once again. I thank you for the info that opened my eyes, I pray that you never have to kill,BUT I also pray that you don't fall like sheep. I think a lot of people are attributing magical powers to the year 2000, or otherwise thinking magically about the situation, and this makes the non-magical Y2k computer problems tougher to handle.

Actually, he joined to build a College Fund........Ironically enough, I'm wondering now, if he will ever get the chance to go back to college........Got sent to Germany right after AIT, 2 yr stint, left Jul 98........Really sad.......

What I wrote there was in response to questions about whether the government had been "hiding" information. My point was that the text of public laws and regulations was available to those who sought it (but most people don't seek it).

I came in late to this thread, and there's obviously a lot of inside conversation going on here. But, here's my 2 cents worth.

I think that the far right Republicans WHO I FIND COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY DISGUSTING AND DETESTABLE , the ones who are REALLY out to get Clinton WHO I ALSO FIND COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY DISGUSTING AND DETESTABLE want to create the conditions for an American dictatorship.

Clinton is not some dictator wanna-be who's going to be making a grab for dictatorial power (although that may just be a bonus for him). He's a lackey for the international financial elite who have already grabbed power and plan on consolidating it further. The far right want to destroy the internationalists, but they don't want to destroy the possibility of an American dictatorship at the same time. Clinton plays the game so well, that he makes some of the far right's agenda his own and makes them look like the idiots that they are. He also makes HIMSELF look like an idiot, furthering the internationalist agenda of disintegrating national pride and sovereignty.

The far right can't go after his power-grab, they want to leave that open for their own use. So they go after stupid things. And, by doing that, they are helping along the internationalists agenda. That's why they are so frustrated. They just can't get it right.

The "Liberal Media" is a myth; it's internationalist. The right/radical underground sees what's going on, and they are painted as dangerous looney terrorists by the internationalist media. The right Republicans can't touch them either. They would love a police state, but we're headed into a police world.

Like I said, that was 2 cents worth. You get what you pay for.
