Site to evaluate your power co.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

Discovered this site last nite. Provides way to assess power co. , telecom provider, bank, etc. Does this by eval. SEC disclosure statements. I need to read their ranking methods more , but at least it provides some means for comparison that I've not seen elsewhere.

Definitely check it out:

The North American Electric Power Grid is broken up into various sections, such as MAPP for the Midwest Area Power Pool.

At this URL you can find out what each of the pools are stating about their own Y2K readiness -- the data is aggregated down to the "pool" level.

ftp://ftp.nerc.com/pub/sys/all_updl/docs/y2k/reg-assess/

The various pools and what states (provinces) they consist of are shown, graphically at:

http://www.nerc.com/regional/

You need Microsoft Excel, or if MS has a viewer for Excel (I don't know if they do or not), then a viewer at least.

If you find out something interesting (concerning) about your power pool, please forward the info to me. I'm looking at the MAPP data as I'm biased towards the MAPP region. (wonder why??)

Another document (in another NERC directory area) is: 03-19-97 "How the Transmission System Really Works" ftp://www.nerc.com/pub/sys/all_updl/docs/pres/howworks.ppt
