Clinton Warns of Danger Of Terrorist Attacks!

President Clinton said Thursday that it was "highly likely" that a terrorist group would launch a germ or chemical attack on American soil within the next few years: "I just want the American people to know what they need to know and have a realistic view of this," the president said in a 45-minute interview in the Oval Office, "not to be afraid, or asleep. I think that's the trick." Clinton tells the NEW YORK TIMES that "he is carefully weighing a proposal from the Defense Department to establish for the first time a commander in chief for homeland defense of the continental United States." The paper reports that Clinton smiled repeatedly, yet spoke of spending sleepless nights pondering the new security challenges facing American after the end of the Cold War...

Uh-oh.

BTW, thank you all for explaining the Milne scenario...especially you, Mr. Milne! I appreciate it.

For those of you following Diane's posts, she caught this inevitability some time ago by reading govt web sites, etc. She'll be back to posting soon. Hint y'all: The Feds are priming us for Martial Law Plus, with terrorism threat tied to Y2K a big bugaboom.

Fodder for wild conspiratory theories, manifesting right before your screen. I'm not a conspiracy buff, but even little me can see some interesting developments coming down the pike. We live in interesting times. Stay awake and accelerate your preparations.

the question I have to ask myself is whether billy jeff cares if anyone believes him anymore...does he even believe himself?? *sigh* all we need is a nice little series of armed confrontations to soften up the infrastructure, severely limit the number of people who can successfully prepare/relocate/etc, and generally amplify the effects of the y2k discontinuity...why oh why did what could possibly be the last president of the united states have to be such a twirp?

Arlin, his twirp.dumb is one of the reasons he's the last Prez of US

Right on Leska. A dumb liar he is at that. He's made sure that if he goes down, no one else can be prez.

"I just want the American people to know what they need to know and have a realistic view of this," the president said in a 45-minute interview...

He's made so much fuss about these so-called terrorists (I love that, so-called), but yet has barely said anything about Y2K.

I think his terrorists are all in his head, and he's using them as an excuse for what Y2K will do. Just wait next year, all the gov./pentagon/utilities failures will be caused by those terrorists, because as we know, the gov. and industries will be all compliant by 2000, so only terrorists could have caused those failures.

-- Chris (catsy@pond.com), January 22, 1999.

Well, I do think a bunch of terrorists are salivating waiting until 2000 to get their revenge. But it is very weird that this sudden terrorism mirrorism is eclipsing Y2K. The terrorists are the DGI geek -suppressors, managers, short-sighted pointy-hair bosses etc etc y'all know who to blame, yah. Right now the derisive DWGIs are the terrorists, because they are inhibiting mass calm preparation.

BTW, now that it's open season on terrorists, let me reiterate that Ashton & I are *not* terrorists, wackos, nutsos, extremists, or any other boxy category. Our addy is allaha, actually ALLAHA, which is our biz acronym, short for Ashton & Leska's Live At Home Assistance, our little home Work-In caregiving business. Yeah, maybe it should've been Die At Home Assistance, but it began 26 years ago with long-term chronic care. One is alive until one is dead; then one is Even More Alive! Besides, we read recently that it means "God Protects." :) :) :)

Clinton To Unveil Details Of Terrorism Plan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Clinton Friday will give details of a multibillion dollar proposal to guard against a ''growing threat'' of terrorism through chemical or biological attacks and disruption of computer networks, White House officials said.

The proposal, first made in Clinton's State of the Union speech Tuesday, seeks to promote training of local emergency officials in detecting and responding to such attacks, to develop vaccines, and to protect computer networks.

``It will be a several billion dollar announcement,'' a senior administration official said.

Clinton is to unveil details of the plan in an address at the National Academy of Sciences at 10 a.m. EST (1500 GMT)Eastern time Friday.

``We must work to keep terrorists from disrupting computer networks. We must work to prepare local communities for biological and chemical emergencies, to support research into vaccines and treatments,'' Clinton said in his State of the Union speech.

White House spokesman Joe Lockhart said the effort aims to protect against both domestic and international-based terrorists. ``There is a growing threat to this country of chemical, biological and cyber terrorism,'' Lockhart said.

National Security Adviser Sandy Berger told reporters in a briefing this week that the effort would establish a national preparedness office that would oversee training in 120 cities.

Police, firefighters and hospital workers would be trained in detecting and dealing with attacks from chemical and biological weapons, and computer-security experts would be hired.

Chris, can't help it, just spent several days tossing ideas around, never thought the shadows would lengthen and manifest immediately. If this y2k thing comes down as you say it will then terrorist attacks will only be a distraction for the main attraction. Also if President Clinton is serious about this threat (I think it is real) then he will begin to encourage Americans to purchase arms and ammo and begin civil defense training. We have a great army but the People of this Nation make up the (reserve) Army. That was the original idea for this country.

WE WIN!

"Well, I do think a bunch of terrorists are salivating waiting until 2000 to get their revenge." Duh, read that sentence from my above post, I KNOW the threats are real, just went thru anthrax evacuation. And, I'm calm, but am trying to get ppl to notice the huge announcement coming this morning. Just in high spirits lately, for good reasons. Fortunately I'm not so calm in anesthetized sheephell stupor that I haven't already become FEMA certified in two cities and completely prepared suburbanly. Plus, got an eMail from a FEMA person last night that blew my mind. There's activity behind the smirk-wall construction intended to keep the sheeple blankly grazing on sitcoms.

I can't believe no one has brought up the obvious historical anology here. Adolf Hitler was a socialist, and so is Clinton. Hitler formed the brown shirts, also known as Jack Booted thugs, to intimidate and harass political opposition as Clinton has used his alphabet agencies to harass Christians and Patriot groups. After consolidating his power as supreme dictator Hitler formed the SS as his own personal elite executioners and enforcers, Clinton is trying to set up a separate military to be run by his corrupt justice department under his direction. Very neatly bypasses possee comatais. President Clinton has issued over 300 executive orders under the War Powers act since coming into office. Many of these are top secret and even congress does not know the content. Stop and think about the implications of this. I heard a speech reversal on Clinton by David Oates that said "Vow a Nazi whirlwind" I think that is exactly what he is intending.

-- Nikoli Krushev (doomsday@y2000.com), January 22, 1999.

Welcome back Diane! :)

Yes I know the threats are real. I was being cute. Doesn't change the fact that he's spouted off over the roofs about terrorists, but not Y2K. In the end, being prepared for terrorists or Y2K is still being prepared. But he's taking advantage of the terrorist threat to cover his pathetic behind right now for fouling up so badly with Y2K.

-- Chris (catsy@pond.com), January 22, 1999.

Exactly, Chris, you Get It! Being prepared is smart, for natural disasters, man-made disasters, as-yet-unimagined disasters, etc. So I'm glad *something's* being done, albeit slowly. But however real the terrorism threat it, the transparency of subbing the guerillas for the bug are funny and amazing to watch. I'm not quite yet so jaded that I don't twitch in laughter at the circus. Let me off this lunatic planet!

Er..Mark, the LAST thing Clinton wants is a well armed populace. Every action he has taken since coming into office points directly towards doing completely away with the constitution and establishing a dictatorship. He openly stated after being re-elected that he intended to rule by executive order, completely cutting the legislative and judicial arms of the government out of the loop. The purpose of the militia is to support and defend the constitution from enemies both foreign and DOMESTIC. Another Hitler anology, one of his first acts was to implement national gun registration, followed by confiscation. A quote from Sarah Brady of handgun control inc. "Our dream of achieving a socialist America can never be realized until all those who would oppose us are disarmed." These people have a clear cut agenda for the future, and we aint invited.

Nikoli-

Can you give a reference for that outrageous quote from Sarah Brady? I have a really hard time believing that she said that.

As far as your flame war with Maria - anyone who takes speech reversal seriously will believe anything. You actually had me a little worried till I saw that.

-- Ned (entaylor@cloudnet.com), January 22, 1999.

Ned, give me a few minutes to relocate that quote and I'll be right back. I remember it was in a national magazine but can't remember which one. I don't know if there is anything to reverse speech or not, still undecided, I do know that Clintons speech reversals during the finger wagging denial he made to the public admitted his having an affair. The reversal Of Mike McCurry, his press secretary said, "Damn him, this is ugly and a mess." This was during his press briefing when the Lewinsky story first broke and they were denying it. Hang around, I'll be back soon as I locate that quote.

Here's the article from the New York Times:

Clinton Describes Terrorism Threat for 21st Century

xxxxxxx xxxxxxx xxxxxxx

-- Leska (allaha@earthlink.net), January 22, 1999.

OK Ned , here is the exact quote. "Our task of creating a socialist America can only succeed when those who would resist us have been totally disarmed." Sarah Brady, Chairwoman, Handgun Control, to Senator Howard Metzenbaum, The National Educator, January 1994, page 3.

-- Nikoli Krushev (doomsday@y2000.com), January 22, 1999.

One last quote before I go get some lunch. "Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it." I don't know who said that origionally, but he was dead right. Given the past and present actions of our government it isn't all that hard to predict what Y2K will bring. Just look at the history of Nazi Germany, they are using it as a blueprint to shape our path.

-- Nikoli Krushev (doomsday@y2000.com), January 22, 1999.

It's hard to imagine Clinton as a Hitler though. His personality is so ...docile? He certainly doesn't come across as a raving maniac. I couldn't understand Hitler's speeches in old tapes, but I could see the passion in his demeanor and voice. There's no one in the gov. now that talks anywhere near passionately. Perot did, but he doesn't count.

-- Chris (catsy@pond.com), January 22, 1999.

Chris, yes his presentation is a lot smoother and lower key, but the ability to sell the big lie is every bit up to par with Hitlers. Case in point, last weeks state of the union address. He opened the speech with a promise of 25 years of budget surpluses, which is a flat impossibility in the face of Y2K induced worldwide economic upheaval, even in its best case scenarios. He then rambled on for a solid hour about all the socialist programs he was going to implement and pay for with this money. The entire speech was founded on a lie, completely out of touch with reality, and the American public bought it hook line and sinker. Now today we get this commander in chief crap, and the major media is screaming biochem terrorist at the top of their lungs trying to drown out the minority who see what this is about. If you don't think the mass media is working in lockstep with Clinton just look at the Byrd fiasco today. Before the trial began the media put on a Byrd blitz about him being the constitutional expert of the Senate, immune to partisanship, yada yada yada. They even furnished us with a couple of good sound bytes, "Mr. President, do not tamper with this jury." So what happens? The trial rolls along until the Republicans are in the middle of their closing arguments and just as they are about to rip Clintons defense to shreds Byrd upstages them calling for the Senate to dismiss the trial. The major networks immediately drop coverage of the trial and go to Coverage of Byrds statement and the Public doesn't have a clue how this whole scenario was mapped out in advance by the media and the administration. It just makes me sick to my stomach. I can see what is coming plain as the nose on your face, and I aint talking about the aquittal.

New Threats, New Defenses

New Threats, New Defenses

Pentagon Hacker Detection May Not Be Enough
Marines Ill-Prepared For Medical Emergency

WASHINGTON, Friday, January 22,1999 - 09:23 PM ET

-----------------------------------------------------------------
"A criminal cartel could do a systematic national intrusion into the computer systems that control the electric power grids."
Richard Clark, U.S. Counter-Terrorism Coordinator
-----------------------------------------------------------------
(CBS) The military is training for the day a terrorist sets off not just a bomb, but a chemical or biological weapon that would spew out an invisible death. But, as CBS News National Security Correspondent David Martin reports, the Marines can not possibly handle every threat to set off an anthrax bomb or some other weapon that could trigger a medical emergency.

"If there is an outbreak some place, calling in the Marines is not the solution," says Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala.

First on the scene will be local police and firefighters who are only beginning to learn how to handle a chemical or biological attack. That is why President Clinton plans to spend $10 billion dollars to beef up the country's defenses against two new kinds of terrorist attack which he believes are highly likely.

Teenagers have already hacked into pentagon computers, and in a society run by computers the potential to wreck havoc is alarming.

"A terrorist group or a criminal cartel could do a systematic national intrusion into the computer systems that control the electric power grids, (and) the telephone networks," says Richard Clark, U.S. Counter-Terrorism Coordinator.

The pentagon has computer centers to detect and defeat hackers, but the most powerful country on earth is still vulnerable.

"This is not a cause for panic," says President Clinton, "it is a cause for serious, deliberate, disciplined, long term concern."

Sometime in the next century it may even require the creation of a new military command that would be responsible for defending the homeland against these new kinds of terrorists attacks.

Shift Happens. When the lights go out, please place your blame on the terrorists. Thank you. Good night.

-- your friendly officials (USA@govt.sheeple), January 23, 1999.

In upholding a country's safety, first attend to keeping the country operable: fix Y2K problems.

The govt knew about Y2K years ago, and let it came to the point it is today: certain disaster.
Now in a self-imposed Y2K national security vulnerability, there is a plan to create "a new military command that would be responsible for defending the homeland against these new kinds of terrorists attacks."

"Teenagers have already hacked into pentagon computers, and in a society run by computers the potential to wreck havoc is alarming."

"A terrorist group or a criminal cartel could do a systematic national intrusion into the computer systems that control the electric power grids, (and) the telephone networks . . ."

Hmmmmm, in this need to beef-up security for Y2K vulnerability, I wonder if the Internet will be considered something needing a muzzle, to keep the terrorists and hackers out of government computer systems.

Less communication would mean less grassroots knowledge and action. I wonder how many ways people will pay for the Y2K lack of prep, and the financial and other devious motives that led us into this position.

How much will the govt be held responsible for, and how much was their mistake? How much was pre-planned, or taken advantage of as an "opportunity," and how much is a design to cover up responsibility?

"Hmmmmm, in this need to beef-up security for Y2K vulnerability, I wonder if the Internet will be considered something needing a muzzle, to keep the terrorists and hackers out of government computer systems."

Correct me if I'm wrong someone, but I believe the gov./pentagon already has it's own "closed circuit" internet. I remember a thorough discussion about this on a forum several years ago. Old hands were discussing the origins of the internet, Aarpanet (I think there's an even earlier name to it) which was designed and operated by the gov., then when it opened to the universities, the gov. severed it's military/classified servers/departments from it. I assume they have their own insider, innaccessible from the outside "internet", or bbs. What they connect to the internet/www is what they want to be seen/accessed. The internet can't be muzzled by its nature, not with our constitution still standing.
