Storing Gasoline

Can you store gasoline in 55 gallon metal drums? Or is there a better or cheaper way to store 100-200 gallons?

We picked up a used 250-gallon storage tank in fine condition for $100. Check your "Shopper".

be sure to add stabilizer. $6 treats 100 gal. and extends life from 3-6mo to 18-24mo. BoatersWorld has a good deal on it.

Hey Jackee, He wants you to check your local paper of saleable items. If you would live in Florida it's the "Flyer" Other places it's ofcourse by other names. Here in NC it's " IWANNA " Has everything you could want that SAKS doesn't. Furie...

Thanks, Furie! Here in California it's called the Pennysaver. I'll take a look.

That was quick Jackee, Oh,forgot to mention don't put the fuel tank on solid ground,ie.Earthquakes? truck tires layed flat under the tank will absorb the shock of tremors. And also smell for fumes if any. Teflon tape all fittings so NO LEAKS. Used to live in the Palisades many moons ago, good luck. Furie.

The two most obvious points:

Not anywhere near an inhabited dwelling, or (God forbid!) within.

Not anywhere it could spill and run downhill to an inhabited dwelling, or into sewers where it could turn to vapour and then blow up an entire neighbourhood.

It's probably illegal to store gasoline except subject to certain strict rules. Ignore this if you must, but please don't set up your family or your neighbours for the nastiest of deaths.

As a follow-up to Jackee's question about storing gasoline---Can gasoline be stored in the smaller 'carry-along' type red containers (plastic)....outdoors-(i.e.- underneath concrete steps) ? I live in a townhouse area with no yard storgage space. And have neighbors on both sides of my house. I don't want to put it in the basement ...because I'm storing food/water there. Any suggestions....anyone??? Nubian
