Checking in - Bob Atkins

greenspun.com : LUSENET : On Photography : One Thread

OK. This is the first post here and I'm just checking in. The purpose of the "check in" posts is threefold. First to announce you are interested in the group, second to automatically put your name on a list of users to which I can send announcements and third so that I can notify users if and when the forum password is changed. Note there is a "check in " category for these posts.

This forum may not get a lot of traffic. I really don't know if it will work or not, it's just an experiment. To save yourself checking the forum to see what's new, you can sign up for an email alert which will send you an email notification of forum activity on a daily or weekly basis. For a while (until activity builds up or the forum dies out!) this may be a useful function You can edit or cancel the email alert from a link at the foot of the main page.

You can include personal info in your check-in post if you wish. For example I live in NJ and my main interest is in nature and wildlife photography.

I think this is a good idea, similar to some of the mailing lists although probably easier to maintain. So s check-in intro, here's some information: I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, I seem to get categorized as a "fine art" photographer since no-one knows what else to call me, you can see my work online by clicking here, and you can see it in person at the Hunters' Point Shipyard open studios in May if you live around here.

Eccomi! ("Here I am" for non-Italian speakers)

I am curious to see whether or not this forum will fly. I, too, live in the SF Bay Area. I get paid to do web programming and photography is just a fun little diversion for me. I describe my work as mostly landscape/nature stuff, with a certain artsy-fartsy flavor. Oh well, an excess of personality doesn't come across very well over the Internet, so I guess I should stop right now.

After having added the first controversy to this forum (see elsewhere, but nearby) I now realize that you should always read everything before you comment...however I may as well proceed now. I live in Louisville, KY (but have lived in many other places) and shoot mostly nature, street, and uncategorized.

This should be interesting...hopefully not in the way the Chinese mean in the curse "May you live in Interesting times"! Ellis Daniel Vener, age 42, live in Houston, works nationally 9when lucky: globally), architecture, people, events, the city, conceptual, some landscapes, 6x17 panoramics, large format and 35mm (can't find a medium format camera system that I really like.), big productions and intimate quiet moments. Likes H.C.-B., Erwitt, Nicholas Nixon, Jay Maisel, Joel Meyorwitz; doesn't understand what people mean by the term formalism; fascinated by the way time is the unseen element in photography (sliced, compressed, expanded, revisited.) as much as by the play of light and color and gesture. I'm amazed I actually make a living doing photography.
