Utilities in Europe

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

Does anybody know of a site or board or thread that is discussing the status of the electricity industry in Europe? I live in Denmark and public debate on this issue appears to be minimal. Although we probably have the same issues and concerns as folk in North America, we don't seem to have anywhere near the same level of information available on status. One reason might be the many different national regulatory bodies that regulate the European grid(s?). I'd be grateful if anybody knows how to get an overview of how the grid is structured in Europe, the kinds of utilities in each country, the known status, contingency plans. Is there a European, Rick Cowles, Dick Mills or Bonnie Camp out there? A European EUY2K?

Grateful for your help. Keep up the good work, all of you - the world is lurking.

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere - if so, point me to the relevant post.

Chris, I am not aware of any web sites like this in Europe, but I do have some links for you to investigate:

The Utility Connection site is at:

http://www.magicnet.net/~metzler/index.html

This site has two new links listed in Denmark and other European links to energy related sites and organizations of all kinds.

The Energy Information on Internet site has European links also:

http://www.ecn.nl/eii/main.html

There is a Canadian utility site with related European links at:

http://www.wwa.com/~merbland/utility/utility.html

The Y2K European site has links by country. Go to:

http://www.metaplus.com/year2000.html

There are also some International Year 2000 sites at:

http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/SSG/yk04408e.html

I know it will be a lot of work, but perhaps investigating these links will lead you to some of the information you're looking for, or at least provide you with people you might contact who will be able to tell you more.

I believe the "Ar 2000" computer problem will cause varied troubles around the world, so I'm glad you're trying to gather information. All best wishes to you and good luck!

Chris, I forgot to give you two links with information on nuclear power plants in Europe. The International Nuclear Safety Center Database is at:

http://www.insc.anl.gov/

and the maps of nuclear reactors in European countries are at:

http://www.insc.anl.gov/maps/europe.html

The Nuclear Information and Resource Service has some global links at:

Chris,

You are right, we have no Rick Cowles, Dick Mills or Bonnie Camp out here. You have to search for national activities in Denmark or go to http://www.ispo.cec.be/y2keuro/year2000.htm on european level.
