Bull & Butt

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

Ok, the world doesn't need any more pictures of elk in Yellowstone. That won't stop me! Sure, the other animal is a photographic flaw, but it's reality. This bull was jealously guarding a harem of about a dozen cows.

A flawless image. One of the best images that I have ever seen on this forum. It looks like a classic painting. Keep up the great work. Congratulations

I particularly like the bull's haughty bearing, the sheen of his coat and the highlights on the antlers. The way the grass fades to the soft background adds a very pleasing feel to the scene. Great shot!

I like the light in this photo, but the composition just doesn't quite work for me like this. The one bull alone would be nice, though as you said that has been done 1000 times. At the same time, the one butt seems distracting. I might like it better with more cows partially in the scene. That would portray better what it is that you actually saw: a bull jealously guarding his harem.

I agree with Lanier. I would like to see more of the cow. At least her head to complete the "guarding, don't mess with me" message. The Bull pose is awsome and the lighting is also excellent. I like this shot as is but cropping to a tight portrait is also nice.

I would put it on my wall if it was mine, I love bull elk.

Cheers

Beautiful light and beautiful Bull; but too bad about the butt. Even though you say that it's reality, there are still compositional issues to address. Did you take any more?

Where have I seen this before?
