Canon EOS50 & Speedlite 300EZ

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I've just bought an old speedlite 300 EZ for my EOS 50. Before I've used sunpack 355AF with good satisfaction. Now I've find this 300EZ (used) but I've not foud any kind of technical documentation. I'd like to know how does it work with EOS 50 and also something about the way to use... Infact there is a swith on this flash that im'm not sure how does it works: you can select the distance ( an the pwer to use)? It' in the rear and you can select with two position: There are 2 draws with 3 arrows >>>. There is also the Led for the ready, but it begin black (when it was recharging), then green and after red... What does it mean? I try to read FAQ to find some information but I've not fund anything. Thanks in advance. Fabio.

The light indicates charge. If it's off, the flash isn't ready to fire. If it's green, it will fire but not at full power, when it's red it's fully charged and ready to fire at full power.

The zoom is automatic, not manual, so you get whatever zoom is appropriate for the lens you are using. You can't set flash power on the flash, but I think you can use the flash compensation function on your EOS 50 to vary it somewhat.

I think the >>> switch is the first and second curtain sync switch. With first curtain (probably with the switch to the left), the flash fires at the begining of an exposure, with second it fires at the end. Second curtain sync is useful for long exposures where you want a "trail" from a moving subject.

Just mount it on your camera and shoot! It's pretty automatic.
