What is a haule and is it good or bad? I heard it all the time when we were in Hawaii.

Haole means foreigner, but more so means caucasian. It can be both derogatory and okay. It could be said matter of factly like "Most haoles don't like the raw fish" or vicious as in "Eh haole, go home." It just matters what the context is.

Haole originates from Ha meaning breath and ole meaning without and loosely translate into without breath. When western man first arrived in Hawaii the Hawaiians, being of darker skin thought that the whiter skined westerner must be without breath (oxygen), therby being of whiter skin. Haole is both good and bad depending on the contexts of which it is used. Ex. That haole chick sure can surf. as opposed to Stupid haole chick find another wave.
