Was the Heart of the Ocean worn by Louis the XVI?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TitanicShack : One Thread

I need to know if the Heart of the Ocean necklace that Kate Winslet or "Rose" wore during the movie, if that had the stone in it that Louis the XVI wore. This is for a school project, so if you know, please hurry and tell me. And also, if you know, tell me anything else about the Heart of the Ocean that you know. That would be most appreciative. Thanks a lot!

The "Heart of the Ocean" never existed in real life. Sorry.

The "Heart of the Ocean" is fictional, but is based on the Hope diamond. Check out http://www.albritons.com/hopedia.html for more info on the Hope diamond's history, which parallels that of the "Heart of the Ocean" up until the Blue Diamond of the Crown disappears in the French Revolution.

You both are wrong guys...I know date is to late now the year 2003 but anyway if somone reaches this page...

You both are wrong.. Heart cuts have become very popular the past few years, partly because of the booming diamond industry, and the film "Titanic", which featured a large heart cut blue diamond that was thrown into the ocean. The movie prop was fake. However, after the film's release, a jewelry company faceted a heart cut sapphire identical to the stone in the film, then mounted it in a necklace to match. People often confuse the Hope Diamond and the 'Heart of Ocean' - both were blue, and both were surrounded by smaller white stones. However, one is a heart cut and the other a cushion, and the 'Heart of the Ocean' is considerably larger than the Hope Diamond. I am perpetually irritated by people confusing the Hope with the 'Heart of the Ocean.'

Actually the heart of the ocean never existed. King Louis XVI once reported that he had a necklace named the heart of the ocean but really it ither wasn't the same one or it never existed but my calculations proved that it never existed. If the King's necklace was real people would have found it but because he was beheaded they never found it and also the King never showed it to anyone he only spoke of it. If that isn't proof enough than shut up.

All of you are wrong! There is such thing as the Heart of the Ocean because it's in the Washington D.C.'s museum! duh!I suggest that before you talk you all better do some research or go to the Washington D.C. mesuemand see for yourself!

I don't know about there being a "Heart of the ocean" at the museum, but i do know, in fact, that it is real. It the blue diamond worn by King Louis XVI. It is otherwise known as the Hope diamond. This is fact told by the Titanic exhibit. I asked the people myself, and they told me that there was such thing as a "Heart of the ocean". The necklace worn by Kate Winslet was just a prop, but there is one out there. The fact that no one found it is bull shit. Someone had to find it, as King Louis was beheaded, and he was wearing it when it happened. I hope this is enough for you numb skulls. Since you have no idea what you're talking about. -None ya

For all of you out there who are confused about it whether the Heart of the Ocean is the Hope Diamond I will answer that question now: NO THE HEART OF THE OCEAN IS NOT THE HOPE DIAMOND.

In the movie, James Cameron BASED the heart of the ocean on the hope diamond. It is not the same.

On the other hand, apparently AFTER THE MOVIE WAS MADE, Jewellers Asprey and Garrard did CREATE a replica of the Heart of the Ocean but it was cut from a SAPPHIRE and was worn by Celine Dion. Harry Winston also had a necklace made that was inspired by the Heart of the Ocean and was a diamond which was worn by Gloria Stuart. (source:
