Corporate Statement, January 1, 1999

".....Stage 1 involved certifying that all critical systems were Year 2000 ready. There are over 1870 critical systems in Ontario Hydro, and all but 23 of these ( ie 98.8%) were certified as Year 2000 ready by the end of December, 1998. All of the systems essential to the generation, transmission, and distribution of power have been certified. This first stage also involved completing risk assessments of all critical business processes in all business and functional areas. Also in Stage 1 we : retained two major consulting firms to help us achieve Year 2000 readiness by developing methodologies for remediation work and risk management planning, customised for our use 7 met the AECB milestones for certification of special nuclear safety systems by September 30, 1998, and for supporting safety systems by December 31, 1998 7 worked with suppliers to resolve potential problems with embedded components 7 launched an independent review of our Year 2000 program......"

John.....You may be right. Given the wording, the 23 systems left for certification could actually represent 100% of the remediation task required.
