Polls, Why don't we have one

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I keep reading about all these polls. It seems everyone has a poll about something. I just don't understand why it is that with so many polls, no one has polled me. Are the same people being polled over and over. How many of you have been polled? We need our own poll, not just aimed at this forum but something that will reach across the net and get opinions from all. (Is it possible? That is the first poll question.)

Leska, giggle giggle

Linda, we've never been polled either. In fact, after being in our patient's homes for 26 years, none of *them* have ever gotten polled. Highly skeptical of the whole thing, think they're spun and manipulated anyway. Who cares? (Other than politicians, who have one finger to the wind and the other hand giving *us* the finger -- visualize Nixon at the helicopter, edit BC overlay, etc).

We have the freedom to make up our own minds, and after wading thru the 1000+1 opinions on this Forum, my mind says Y2K is/will be a mess, so get ready, then have fun laughing at idiocy this last year. I'm pretty jolly because I'm ready to leave the planet but if I gotta keep watching the movie at least now it's a comedy of errors -- lifts that oppressive feelin, ya know?

I wish somebody would poll me. Both barrels, they'd get.

My boss won't even let me respond to Y2K Requests for Information (RFI) about our Y2K readiness anymore, since I go a little overboard.

Because of Y2K:

I am 99% more likely to be one grumpy SOB (my name ain't BOB)

I am 75% more likely to say to myself "That Dipshit will be dead in a year"

I am 40% more likely to have a shorter temper

I am 35% more likely to give the "bird" to traffic A-holes

I am 10% more likely to live the life I had planned

I am 100% more likely to be thankful for what I do have now

I have been assured by the Wash. Post this past sunday (outlook section C ) that even though you and I haven't, and no one we know has been polled, don't you for a second think that they don't exist. Why, they've got it down to a science! 1,000 people are chosen randomly by computer, even people with unlisted phone numbers. This will tell you all you need to know about public opinion in the entire country.

Linda,

My Take.

Polls are a great cancer of our modern age meant to persuade people who don't have enough sense to form their own opinion. It does work. I have yet to talk to anyone whose opinion has been used in a poll.

Concerning the President, the opinions around my community are very conserative and don't include support for Mr. Clinton and his impeachment troubles, which is at odds (according to the polls) with the majority of Americans. TJ

I got called once by a pollster, but I thought it was a prank call and I hung up on him!

Been polled three times in the past 5 years. Twice marketing polls (wasted their time, we never go to fast food places and buy almost no processed food), the third political just before the last election. Told the last pollster, it was nobody's business but my own how I voted and I certainly wasn't going to tell him.

Same here Maria, the only "polls" I've been polled for is marketting. I've never been polled in 20 years I've been here for anything from any media. I don't know anyone who has ever been polled either.

I've been polled once for a local election, and a couple of times for marketing some product.
