Ed: We live in Winnipeg, Canada. We have been concerned about this problem for about six months. We know of one person that actually believes the way we do. The rest just shrug their shoulders. But we live in a winter city -30c is normal for January and February. What should we do? My brother is in Nova Scotia, a warmer climate. He also believes there is going to be problems. We are thinking of flying there before the new year, but will be up with air travel after Jan.1 Would appreciate any suggestions Thank-you

Suggestions with what? Flying to your bros? Preparing? Heating your home in a cold climate? I'm sure those here would be most glad to help out if you were a little more specific.

You could drive to N.S. for Christmas. All goes well, no problem, drive back. Otherwise play it by ear from there.

If you feel you might be going to be there a while, set up a food stockpile there jointly with your brother-- for 3 months? 4 months? Plus all the other necessaries. Maybe a woodstove for cooking/heating.

Help your brother prepare before the middle of Sept, but layaway stuff at his place, not yours. Then arrive later, be ready to help while your there.

Bill and Liz, I'm actualy going from warmer climate to colder climate Dec. of next year. I'm leaving Philly area to go to Quebec, where it's also -30c those months. But much dryer than in Philly, can't keep warm here even when there's no snow. We plan to live in our ski suits if we must, and we'll have plenty of wood for the fireplace.

It doesn't seem to me that you should be that concerned over whether or not your return flight is after the new year or not. There are two scenarios:

TSHTF - you won't need return flight, planes won't work anyway. That's why you flew there in the first place

TS does not HTF - plane ticket in the year 2000 is okay.

Anything in between - falls closer to the TSHTF scenario. I don't presume that you would be heading home that soon if you are concerned enought to leave your home in the first place.
