The best digicam for modeling

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

After reading most digital camera reviews, I'm still undecided as to which digicam is the best for modeling (usually indoors).

Most digicams seem to have flaws here, and advantages there, but what I'm curious to know is what reviewers' favorite camera is, regardless of price, software, and speed (other than shutter speed). I'm looking for the highest quality pictures, mostly for indoor modeling. If anyone can recommend a good digicam for this latter purpose, that'd be great too! Anything that can be fixed with good photo finishing software shouldn't be a major problem.

The test pictures for Canon's PowerShot Pro 70 looked like the best so far.. but I'll keep comparing.

Thanks!

I hate the "which did I like best" questions, because this stuff is all so subjective, and particular to a given person's application, needs, biases, etc. Thus far, for studio work, I personally liked the Canon Pro70 very much, as it had a lot of little things that just made life easier in a studio environment. The new Sony DSC-D700 sounds very promising too though, in that it allows *fully* manual operation, a great feature. Haven't actually played with one of those yet though! The new Oly D-620L is nice because it supports external flash, and has such a FAST shot-recovery time that you can snap pictures pretty quickly to grab fleeting expressions.

I guess if I had to say what camera is my favorite, regardless of price, it would be the Kodak DC460, but it's up above $20,000! (You did say "regardless" though!)

BTW - When you say "modeling", I've been assuming you mean taking pictures of human models, as opposed to scale models. Correct? - If the latter, obviously strong macro capabilities would be crucial...

I have used the Kodak dc260 with some studio strobes with very good results. The pc terminal on the 260 is a fairly unique feature on most "digicams" I've seen. We will be going to a "filmless" portrait studio ASAP.
