greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

if ANYONE thinks that the euro isn't a catalyst for y2k they are definitly on CRACK. AFTER reading this story I must musthoestly say I am watching my bank a little more CLOSELY these days. One thing I watch when it comes to EUROPEANS they DO NOT GO FOR THE BULLSHIT. CLose the bank on them and INSTANT riot. It WILL happen here so for all the people who think ' no no we are more civilized then that ' - HEY you f*ck with my money and YOU got problems. I know about 400 million people who will NOT be so ' UNDERSTANDING '.

Euro blamed for violent clashes at French post office By Susannah Herbert in Paris

La Poste et l'euro - La Poste Euro sur Internet [selection of French sites on the euro] rder="0" width="13" height="10" alt=">"> Euro Internet Le Monde

EUROPE'S first "euro-riot" erupted yesterday in Marseilles when dozens of frustrated benefit claimants smashed up three post offices, blaming the single currency for a major computer breakdown that has blocked their payments since the new year.

Their protests, promptly suppressed by riot police, followed unsuccessful attempts to claim unemployment benefit, child allowance and income-support. Hundreds of thousands of savings-account holders at La Poste - which doubles as one of France's biggest banks - were also prevented from withdrawing money following the crash of the computer system handling such transactions.

The system was adapted to make it "euro-compatible" last week following the fixing of the franc-euro parities. Since the adaptation, which required intensive work by thousands of technicians, the system has repeatedly crashed, although La Poste has said this was a coincidence.

Where is Richard Dale to report on the U.K. perspective these days?

HEY sean YOUR posts ARE quite tough to READ. WHY not just TYPE in all lowercase LETTERS instead of SPORATIC caps?

-- Mrs. Smith (YOUR_english@TEACHER.com), January 08, 1999.

This report was already covered in an earlier thread, Euro Crash, Riots.

-- No Spam Please (anon@ymous.com), January 08, 1999.

Mrs. Smith, the word is sporadic. Are you sure you're an English teacher?

-- Gayla Dunbar (privacy@please.com), January 08, 1999.

I said I was Sean's English teacher. Is it any wonder his posts are tough to read?!

-- Mrs Smith (Oops@yagotme.com), January 08, 1999.

Gayla Dunbar:

Ms. Gayla;

Thanks for dropping your cloaking device for a moment. It's nice to know that you're still around, even if you're hiding in the bushes. Keep us honest.

Gayla.................

Sporatic caps are caps that are covered in mold.

Thanks, S.O.B. I've been "playing" around on another forum for awhile. I needed a break. A friend e-mailed me that things here had gotten a little better. I'm glad.

Gayla,

I missed you!

Yes, Gayla. I second Mike's sentiment.

Hi Gayla.

Can you tell which other forum you were in? I just got back from outta town and I cant cope with all the 'blasts' here at all....I cant believe how things have changed in LESS than a two week period. It is sad. Where are are the old good people? Uncle dee dah, the other teacher,? etc? Did they leave too cuz of all the flaming? I dont mean to sound berating, but each time I've posted, I've got blasted. Tired of it. Just speak out and try to have some fun is getting harder to do. Any other good forums,? Please share. Thanks

Thanks to all for the kind words. Consumer, I understand how you feel. To disagree with a person's opinion is fine, but to attack them personally because you have a different opinion is SO juvenile. Once upon a time......(sounds like a fairy tale, doesn't it?)...this forum was about helping people. Now it seems like it is mostly just about disagreeing with them.

I have been spending time on Pastor Chris's forum. It's a little quiet and slow, but the change has been a welcome one. Seems to me one of the best parts of Yourdon's forum is provided by Kevin. In the old days he would have been called a "news hound." Keep up the good work, Kevin!

Here is the URL for Pastor Chris's site, Consumer. Come visit anytime!

Consumer - Just a heads-up: be advised that it's a Christian forum. Didn't want you dropping in and wondering what was up with all the Scripture references. 8-}]

"I made some studies, and reality is the leading cause of stress amongst those in touch with it. I can take it in small doses, but as a lifestyle, I found it too confining. It was just too needful; it expected me to be there for it ALL the time, and with all I have to do---I had to let something go."---Trudy the Bag Lady (In Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe)

Yeah, we've picked up a few snerts since Christmas. On the other hand we've been joined by several intelligent, well-spoken new contributors who, in my opinion, have more than made up for it. This is still the most thoughtful, engaging, informative forum around.

Gayla, Thank you. I have a question though. I am not very computer literate as you all well know, can you give me the www. address for pastor chris forum so I can get outta this dumb window? LOL I am serious.

Thank you again, and I dont have a problem at all with it being a christian forum, I feel more comfy there.

-- Shimrod (shimrod@lycosmail.com), January 09, 1999.

Consumer, if you have a two-button mouse, you can get out of a window frame by clicking any link with the right-side button and selecting "open in a new window", this give the webpage in its own window. After moving to the main page, bookmark it.

You can do this with a thread to keep the main list showing in its own window, and you can right click the 'contribute answer' link to keep the discussion showing in its own window.

Besides Pastor Chris' discussion, here are some more Y2k discussions that use the same software. Some of them are not often posted to but the community-oriented ones are good anyway. (If the link gets broken up by the reply formatter just select the string copy and paste into the address box. Then take out any added spaces and hit enter. But first try right-clicking these.)
