Oh yes folks, of any celebirty I can think of, Streisand would be the one I would listen to in a heartbeat. Nothing like an egotistical diva to show me the way.

Sean,

I first heard about Barbra Streisand's Y2K concerns close to a month ago. I heard about it from this article:

http://www.detnews.com/1998/nation/9812/09/12090182.htm

"Barbra Streisand reportedly is afraid of getting bitten by the Y2K bug. The New York Daily News says that Streisand has decided not to perform at New York's Madison Square Garden on New Year's Eve 1999 -- partially because of concerns about how computers will handle the switch to the year 2000."

Wonder how the millionnaires' Y2K shopping list compares with Joe Six Pack's. Hers ought to be pretty interesting.

Since it has been widely reported that Barbara has a firm grip on Mr. Clinton's er-ear, perhaps we should take this report more seriously. She may have info straight from the president's- mouth?

-- Bill in South Carolina (notaclue@webtv.net), January 06, 1999.

It appears to me that GIs and DGIs come from all walks of life. It is not nearly as amazing to me that Barbra Streisand Gets It, as it is that several computer professionals I've talked to insist that since things in their little narrow fields of vision will be OK, nothing bad will happen anywhere. ("I checked with my boss and he said we're fine. No problem.")

There was a relevant article in the current issue of Radiology, a trade publication for radiologists. The author took a fairly serious view and spent 7 pages discussing all aspects, from personal to professional.

Barbara Streisand??!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!! What about Cher?? What does she think?? Anyone heard from Bette Middler??

getting a little goofy aren't we folks.......

If Babs gets it, then I gotta rethink my whole attitude.

-- dave (wootendave@hotmail.com), January 06, 1999.

Any high profile person who *gets it* is likely to have an influence on more people than I can have, so I'm glad that she does. I would love to see Ann Landers and Oprah come out with legitimate reasons that encourage contingency plans for families, churches, businesses. Most people would put a lot more stock in what either one of the latter two say than anything that Bill Clinton has said or will say!

Babs is reportedly doing one show in Vegas for $10M. Wonder if she'll do a Y2K version of "Don't Rain On My Parade":

Get ready for it, love, 'cause it's a "comer"/ It's clearly on the march, my heart's a drummer/ Hey, Y2K/ Is gonna rain on our paraaaaaade!

You know, it would be ironic if the lights stayed on in New York, but went out in Vegas, while Babs was singing along (although the Nevada utilities, I believe, have promised readiness).

I think I read that she was concerned about being clear across the country from her home, which is why she didn't want to play in NY...

"SO FOR THE DGI ; WHAT MORE PROOF DUE YOU NEED ? "

Sean, don't hold your breath. It's not until the DGI's fortune tellers on those 976 Ph# start worrying and warning them that they will become GI's.

I never was a fan of Streisand's anyway. Now if Celine Dion started stockpiling...

FWIW--Heard on NBC nightly news that if you were wanting to buy tickets to Garth Brooks new years eve concert Dec. 1999, don't. He has stated he will not do a concert this coming new year's eve, because he wants to be with his family that night. hhhmmm

-- Donna in Texas (Dd0143@aol.com), January 06, 1999.

So Bab's LA mansion is gonna be stocked and locked? A nice idea, but Being the Good Liberal, she certainly will not have any of those awful guns around. (" Those things, ya know, like, give off some, like really negative-type vibes, I mean wow, like, my analyst would flip if she even knew that, ya know, I was like considering behaving like a god-awful, ya know, REDNECK or, like something. Rodeo Drive, forget it! I could, like, never never ever show my face there again, like max embarrassment-time forever. Could you, ya know, like, go over that cocked and locked deelydood again?")

-- Wild Irish (shotgun12@att.net), January 06, 1999.

Barbra reputedly suffers from horrendous stage-fright. She is also terrified of surgery, cosmetic or otherwise; she never even got her ears pierced. IOW, Babs is one chronically scared little lady. Not surprising that she's got a Chicken Little thing going on wrt y2k. I can relate totally, btw, being terrified of practically everything myself...

Maybe Babs can get Alec Baldwin to help protect her. Dude certainly doesn't seem averse to violence:

anyone see babs turn into mega-streisand on south park? Maybe that's her plans for new years evil?
