New Tiffen Polarizer

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I just saw in a magazine that Tiffen has a new, thinner circular polarizer. I am not sure how long this has been out. Has anyone tried it? I have been thinking about replacing my regular Tiffen polarizer due to vignetting with my 28-105 lens. Also, can anyone offer opinions on the Canon circular polarizer and vignetting, as well as quality? I have heard before that it is thinner.

I have the Canon for my 28-105. No vignetting at all at 28. That's why I bought it. I have the older Tiffen. Junk, as far as I am concerned for wide angle lenses. I use it on my 75-300 zoom. I don't know about the new Tiffen. For my money, get the right one the first time and move on. If it doesn't work, like the old one, you end up with the better Canon one anyway and have spent more getting there.

I have a 72mm Tiffen thin circular polarizer but don't use it much. It is very hard to grasp the ring to turn the polarizer and mine seems to bind at several places making it almost impossible to use. I've settled on the Nikon polarizers which are oversize to reduce vignetting and are smooth as glass to turn.
