Update on George

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TitanicShack : One Thread

Everyone,

Our school began again today and I talked to George (same debate class). He got into Yale, early decision. I also told him about how I have been posting on this message board. He didn't seem too interested, but asked why, and said that if I didn't like the movie, there was no reason to contribute, because so many of the other people here "acted like vultures." Just thought I'd say. It was weird - you'd expect him to be really excited that he got into an IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL and not be able to sit still, but he acted like it was an ordinary thing. Sometimes he and those like him can be a little weird. Oh well.

Uh...and we would care because? You actually told your friend about a messageboard that you have still been posting on even though you dont like the movie?(I assume George is the person who introduced you to this site). At any rate, I am a senior in college and am currently applying. Mabye your friend knew all along he was SMART enough to get into a good school and has no need to show excitment. Just because you are happy about getting into a school does not neccessarily mean you are bouncing off the walls. People show emotions differently.

Laura,

I don't think you really know what this is about. To find out who George Haverstrom is, look at the directory "Relatives of Survivors," and read ALL the threads. Actually, the title of the directory is wrong, because didn't J.J. Astor die on the Titanic? I stopped writing to you in that thread. I only posted this because I thought some of the people who had corresponded with George would be interested. And yes, he is smart... especially in debate: he's one of our school's champions.

God! Do you take everything that I take as critisism? You gotta learn to let things go buddy. Also, I was not saying your friend was not smart. He has to have somewhat of an intelligence level to get into an Ivy League school. But, then again...I know someone who got in just because her parents are well off.

Thank you for the update, Niles. I am glad to hear that George is doing well and that he got into the school he wanted to. I know I would have been bouncing off the walls if I had been able to afford an Ivy League School, but an education is what you make of it, whether it be Yale or California State! Thanks Again!

No problem at all, Misty. The California State system is actually the BEST of all State schools in the US. :)

I glad it is one of the best. I went to New Mexico State for a year, too, and I really liked that school, but unfortunately I couldn't stay there!

I knew it.

The saddest part is that someone would "think" they were so creative that anyone would actually believe any of the thread started with their mystery of "George". The readers chose to read out of their own romantic imagination and hopes for which way this story might turn. As the saying goes, "get a Life", or as I mean to infer, there are far greater things one can do with their time, than spend it inside before an "audience of one" (their computer screen)

For anyone who cares:

I haven't checked in on this for a while; obviously, neither has anyone else. I was "George" and all the others. I know that I upset a lot of people. I didn't think myself "so creative" or anything like that; it was all just a test of a creation and the response to that creation.

I have almost nothing in common with my fictional creation; and I suspect that very few people do. I'm just a regular guy - right now, a 21-year-old college student in the midwest.

Who I am really doesn't matter. I'd just like to say that I'm sorry if anyone was horribly upset. No more postings from me.

- The guy who made it all up

Holy S**t! Oh, my god! Whoever you are? You are good!:) You had me duped. I don't even know how I found this sight. I believed everyhthing. I found it a little weird though. You know way too much, about Edwardian history and in detail especially for a 17 year old. There was only one thing I found strange "Patty Hearst". Her great- grandfather was William Randolph Hearst. She was an heiress, and in a way she did have an aristocratic background. Perhaps not as old as the Astors, but then compared to the English Aristocracy, the Astors are not THAT aristocratic, so who's to say.
