Agfa SnapScan EZ vs Artec AM12E vs UMAX 1220P ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'm looking to compare the three scanners listed in the title. I find mixed reviews on the Artec -- some glowing and some so-so, and little at all on the SnapScan EZ which appears to be a good value based on one review. The 1220P looks a little pricier, but not bad. Any advice to help me choose between the three? I'm looking for the best quality under $100.

Thanks.

Hi Kevin-

Thanks for the great question & answer! - Single-handedly supporting the IR Q&A Forum! Seriously, we appreciate the participation. Apologies for not answering ourselves, but we've been tied up in reviews & deep "site stuff" for an upcoming upgrade. We haven't tested any of the scanners mentioned (so far focusing mainly on film scanners), but have always had good luck with both the UMAX and Agfa products. No experience at all (good or bad) with Artec. Sounds like you got a great deal! Thanks again!

Kevin-

Oops! Just noticed your original post was JANUARY 3! - Our excuse then becomes that that was back when we had a really bad mail crash, and were completely sideways for a while. (See how adroitly our excuses can adapt to the date? ;-) - Thanks again, anyway!

Now that you bought the UMAX on sale, I'd say that the performance has been great. The photo scans are top notch and the magazine scans are good. The OCR is not great, but that's not why I bought it. Thanks for the great question. You're welcome for the great answer.
