Concerned about a T&F score.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

The concern I have about the 1st place score for Track n Field is that the score is extremely high compared to the world record of 95K. I watched the inp, and saw something I never saw before that makes me question this score being valid or not. I noticed on 2 events, the power bar (which maxes out at 1500cm) on a few instances, reached well over the 1500cm mark!? I can tell you from some resources, that the guy who has the world record score, did extremely well in ALL events but never was able to MAX out his power bar unless he used some kind of gadget or computer pulse. If I'm wrong, then I'll stand corrected. Untill then, can a few players check it out for themselves, and let me know if they understand where I'm coming from.

is anyone safe from the eyes of steve krogman ?

hehe...i aint watched it yet..but id like to bet some kind of button 1/2 or l/r (depending on setup ^_^) autofire was used...there is NO way to max out the bars on that game without being THE FLASH!....

good spotting (i will watch it sooner or later!)

Track & Field

Yeah, I was amazed at the speed Phil Lamat was getting , although I have achieved this on the coin-op I can't get anywhere near it on MAME. His speed on the field events is inconsistant which leads me to believe that it is probably legal and he's using some king of coin-op button or even joystick controls. On the coin-op I've managed a 7.14 for 100m using a joystick and a 7.22 with buttons. On the long jump the bar can easily be maxed out as jumping dead on the line gives a speed boost of 50 and I could often manage 1480-1500 with good button controls.

For an advanced playing guide, check out my new Track & Field page at www.dithsworld.cjb.net. It's not 100% complete but any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers all, Dith.

Speaking of dodgy recordings...

I watched the Track & Field recording, and that's the first time I've ever seen the power bar go over MAX too. I dunno what else to say about this since I'm not much of a TnF expert, although it is fun to play from time to time. :)

Anyway. I DL'ed newcomer Donut's Neo Turf Masters recording, in which his score was posted as 67. His final game score does indeed come out to 67 strokes, which winds up as 5 under par (72). But there are a couple issues with this recording (and game).

1. If score is determined by number of strokes, then we have a big problem here. See, in golf, the player with the lower score wins (duh). If someone gets a 66 and uploads it, their score will actually be 2nd on MARP.

2. When a game is started, your credit buys three holes of gameplay. If you get par, you lose a hole. If you get bogey, it takes off two holes. If however you get a birdie, then it will take off the hole and then give you another, leaving you at the same number you started at. So if you can keep getting Birdie's, you can continue to play on one credit for quite a while.

In Donut's recording, he actually uses about 4 or 5 continues to finish the game, which of course is usually a no-no on MARP. Since ranking by number of strokes is a bit screwed-up unless changes are made to the script, I feel that scores for this game should be ranked by how far you get on one credit. i.e. if the Continue screen shows up on Hole 8, then your score would be 8. Any thoughts on this, gang?
