CompactFlash Speed

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Has anyone tested the speed differences (in a Camera) of the various CompactFlash cards? (SanDisk, Viking, Microtech, Lexar Media, etc.)I'd hate to buy a card which slows down the capture on my Nikon 900s, but maybe it's all hype and the speed difference is insignificant.

We have a Lexar card here that we routinely check in CF cameras to see if there's a difference. It does in some, doesn't in others. The camera has to be set up to take advantage of the speed in order for it to have an effect. We didn't have this faster card back when we tested the CoolPix 900, but my understanding is that it is not one of the cameras that benefits from the faster card. You might check with Lexar Media, at their web site, see if they have any sort of a listing as to which cameras do or do not benefit... (I think the Lexar cards are about as fast as they get, so if a camera doesn't show a speedup with those, it probably wouldn't with any. - I don't think any of them are so slow as to "slow down" the cameras, since the SanDisk standard is pretty much a baseline.)

Hope this helps, good luck!
