Kodak DC260 for 8x10 Black and Whites

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'm considering the Kodak DC260 to use for 8x10 headshot work in Black and White. Can anyone confirm that the DC260 is up for this in terms of resolution, etc. and could you recommend the best printer to use (8x10 black and whites) i.e. Epson Photo 700?

Thank you very much for your help!

I don't believe my Fuji MX-700 is SO far different from the Kodak DC260 that this comment won't be valid: The MX-700 makes a pretty nice 4x6" print, but I know it's not 35mm. At 5x7 I know it's digital. I would say the results are right up there with a mediocre $15 throw-away camera, and not close enough to good for the work you would want to do if you intend in any way for your results to look professional.

Kodak claim that the resolution is good enough for 8 x 10 photos. I have found that A4 pictures are very good when printed with the EPSON stylus Photo and the EPSON stylus Photo EX. Unless you get very close indeed to an A4 print printed on these printers it is not possible to see that it is a digital photo especially if you use a graphics package to increase resolution before printing. A3 results definitely require increase in the resolution prior to printing, but you must ask yourself who prints things at A3 size and then looks at them from a couple of inches?

Therefore I suggest ignoring the previous comments about the Fuji camera either they are not using a high quality printer or a graphics package to enhance their end results.
