Tight focusing ring of the 20/2.8 AF (non D) Nikon

Dear all, I'm the happy owner of a 20/2.8 AF Nikon lens, great optics! However, I'm focusing exclusively in manual mode. I've noticed that the focusing ring gets harder to move when you reach closer distances (under 0.4m). Should I worry about this? Thanks and happy new year! Fred.

I have one of these, and it doesn't do that, the focusing is very even, all the way down. It sounds as if your lens could use a service.

Mine also operates very smoothly. If you have a warenty for it, I would send it in.

I had a similar problem. It transpired that a tiny screw had come loose internally and was causing the progressive tightening towards one end of the focus range. I too suggest you get it serviced :)
