Lossless formats

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Are there any digital cameras (less than a $5k nikon or minolta that is) which export images in lossless format like PNG. For cameras such as the Kodak DC260 which have resolutions up to 1536x1024@24bpp you are looking at about 4.7 megs an image completely uncompressed. Lossless compression will bring that down a bit (depending on the filter, 30% on average with photographic images). I don't know about you, but with a 48 meg CF card, I can deal with only storing 10-14 images if I can that added quality boost.

JPEG tends to introduce all sorts of digital artifacts, which usually aren't noticable unless you blow up the image, but once in a while it considerably screws with the image.

Maybe Kodak will make a nice cheap digital SLR... I want panoramic pictures.
