I want to change the battery on my AE-1, but do not have the viewfinder cover that would enable me to open the battery compartment. Can this compartment be opened without the viewfinder cover and how?

Anne You don't need to use the viewfinder cover to open the battery compartment. There is a small catch on the bottom left (as you look at it from the front) of the battery door that you can push the tip of a pen into and lift to open it. The battery is an A544 6 volt alkaline available in most camera shops. Gary

I've never had any trouble opening it with just my bare finger.
