Compact flash reader

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Having just purchased a Kodak 260, I am looking for a way to read the compact flash card faster than a serial connection. Since my computer is rather full has anyone had experience with a scsi reader? I have a jazz and scanner hanging on a scsi port. 2 paralell ports are in use with one being flaky. Is this an easy item to handle? Any software needed or does the mounter do the work? As a newbie I appreciate any comments. Please email me private if you wish. Thanks for the help. Camera is somewhat overwhelming!

SCSI will be super-fast, but is often more of a hassle than parallel ports. OTOH, if you already have a Jaz and scanner attached, you're probably well on the way to being an experienced SCSI-hacker! Just be sure each device has its own SCSI ID, keep your cable lengths short, and be sure the chain is terminated, you should be fine.

The "Mounter" software almost certainly won't do anything with the CF card, but the good news is it doesn't have to: A CF card in an adapter should show up like any other hard disk device, meaning you can just copy files off of it with Windows Explorer. (I'm mainly a Mac guy though, so any other comments from actual Windows users would be greatly appreciated...)

If you've got a USB port, I highly recommend the SCM Microsystems CF Reader (PCD-CF30USB) It's quick and very convenient. Also, congrats on your purchase, you're in for a wild and satisfying ride with your DC260. It's a great camera that can produce excellent pics - be sure to keep up with the firmware upgrades at the Kodak site - up to 1.0.6 now, each one is better than the last, they make a great camera even better.
