I am considering purchasing this camera, but in the User comments section of the review on this site, there are a lot of negative comments. Has anyone determined if this firmware update fixes any of those problems?

Negative! This is another placebo U\G. It does NOTHING to lower the .jpg compression that is this camera's weakest point. In fact, Kodak doesn't even consider this to be an issue! (Read the interview w\ Kodak development team in the reviews section.) They feel that this will soon be a CONSUMER camera, & I guess they feel Joe consumer doesn't give hoot about image quality... We didn't all spend $900.00 on this cam, to take pictures of our dogs & kids & email them to grandma. My advice: Save your money, I don't believe this issue will be fixed 'till the next camera model. I'd look elsewhere,.

To see sample pics of dc260, Go to my websites. At the bottom of the dc260 pix page is a link to my other pix page- Just follow the blinking link... The URL is:

The changes in the update include faster operation (1-2 seconds quicker on bootup, ~2 seconds faster image processing0, as well as some improvements in the operation of external flash with the camera. People who are unhappy with the camera mostly seem to want less compression as an option (as Dr. Atomic pointed out in his namesake fashion ;-). OTOH, I've seen lots of emails from people happy and excited with their purchase: Best is to download images from the cameras you're interested in and see what their output looks like on your printer.

I couldn't agree more w\ Dave! I bought the 260 on faith, that it would deliver as advertised. At the time, there were not many sample pics available. Those that were, were beta versions of the camera. Had I have waited, I would probably not have taken the dc260. Just because I loved My old dc40, I felt pretty confident that the 260 would be more of the same. Learning from some- one else's mistakes is a LOT cheaper- D\L pics from ALL the consumer digicams, zoom in 200% in Photoshop. (or whatever image editor you use) Look at the edge definitions, look for unnatural .jpg artifacts, look for over-sharpening posterization. print them out- look thru a 8x loupe, if you have one. In short, an informed consumer is an empowered consumer. After glowing reviews by C/net, PC world (I think.) & other widely seen & read reviews, I feel I should offer the truth. The Imaging Resource, here has been pretty darn unbiased & I wish I'd have looked here, before buying.

Happy holidays!
