Photo finishing software in HP Photosmart?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

The "Digital Darkroom" review (sponsored by HP) mentioned that a Photo Finishing application was bundled into Photosmart scanner. I haven't been able to find this. Is it still being shipped? I want to print mutiple images on a single 8 1/2 X 11 sheet. The "Enable multiple scans" checkbox in Misc. looks related, but I've found nothing about it in either the help or the printed docs, and it seems to have no effect on the program flow. I could be cynical and say that saving paper wasn't in HP's best interest, but...

As far as we know, there's been no change in the bundling. The Photo Finishing application was a separate app from the software that ran the scanner itself. When we ran the installer from the CD on our Windows machine, it left an icon on the desktop for the Photo Finishing application. If you're not seeing that anywhere, you should probably call HP tech support, to see what happened it. (If by some chance it turns out there's been a change, please let us know here ASAP, so we can change the article appropriately!

(Actually, I think HP stands to make more from ink, but making it easier for people to print lots of pictures -- more than makes up for saved paper! ;-)

Looks like HP has in fact changed the bundling: Peter emailed me directly with this information:

"As it turns out, you can get the Photo Finishing Software, but it is not bundled with the Scanner. It is bundled with the camera and if you call HP they will tell you you can't use it, but they are wrong. To get it, you can go to the HP site and you can download it. It is a bit quirky because it expects a camera to be connected to your computer, but you can do the selecting a subset of pictures from a directory and print more efficiently with it."

This is good news, as we found the photo finishing application very useful in printing quantities of pictures... Thanks, Peter!

When I purchased my PhotoSmart, it came bundled with "PictureIt v1.0". Not sure if packaging has changed.

V1.0 is easy to use and did provide some useful features. V2.0 is now available and has numerous additional features like Automatic Multiple-Up. The cost was around $40us. Although I use "Image Composer" in conjunction with "Picture-It", "PictureIt" may be a solution.
