Faltbed scanner glass surface cleaning

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hello. I have a Nikon AX-1200 SCSI flatbed scanner that I picked up when it became discontinued. I discovered that the surface has a layer of haze and something that looks like dust. What should I clean the glass with? Is regular Kleenix OK? Could I use things I clean my camera lens with? Thanks for your input.

There's generally not any special optical coatings on the glass of flatbed scanners, so just wash it as you would a typical window, only being careful not to dribble Windex inside the scanner! If the haze/dirt is on the *inside* of the glass though, you'd probably want to take it to a repair shop for a professional opening/cleaning.
