3pm New Years Eve afternoon west coast computers on Universal Time will crash.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

As brought out on another forum, those unrepaired computers running on universal time WILL CRASH BEFORE LOCAL TIME ARRIVES AT THE YEAR 2000. Here in the Seattle area we arrive at year 2000 Universal time at 3pm December 31. So, the question becomes what computers use universal time?

GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) or UTC, I would suspect is used by a lot of military and weather appications. Would also suspect the phone companies use it too. Oh yeah, LOL, how about the news media!

Well, Ann, you just made my day! I'm down here in Tacoma. So, instead of waiting till I awaken on 01/01/00 and see if the l.e.d. display is still on in my clock/radio, and throwing everything and my cat into my car (if the light is off) and heading up to my daughter's and her hubby's generator-run-during--power-outages-home, I may hit the road earlier! Hm-m-m...then there's East Cost time. When it's 4:00 p.m. there, it's 1:00 p.m. here. If I can't get CNN, MSNBC, etc., at 1:00, I guess that'll be the time to hit the road!!! Sigh....Lord help us!

I believe that all the routers on the internet use UT or GMT.

When your internet connection dies you'll know something is up!
